How to access a window live Hotmail account with Outlook Express

Hotmail is a web-based email service. It is using the Http protocol for connecting you to your mailbox. If you want to send and receive Hotmail emails using an email client software.   • Access a Windows Live Hotmail account with Outlook Express using POP account:

To add a Windows Live Hotmail account to Outlook Express using POP follow the steps:

  1. Select Tools> Accounts from the menu in Outlook Express.
  2. Click Add and select Mail.
  3. Enter your name under display name.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Enter your Windows Live Hotmail address under email address.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Select POP3 account under my incoming mail server.
  8. Type “live.com” under Incoming mail(POP) server.
  9. Enter”live.com” under Outgoing mail (SMTP)server.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Type your Windows Live Hotmail account address under Account name.
  12. Enter and type your Windows Live Hotmail password.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Select Finish.
  15. Now your Hotmail newly account created.
  16. Click Properties.
  17. Go to the Server tab.
  18. You have to make sure my server authentication requires checked under Outgoing mail server.
  19. Click the Advanced tab.
  20. Make sure server requires a secure connection(SSL) is checked under both outgoing mail and incoming mail.
  21. Check “25” is entered under outgoing server.
  22. Make sure “995” is appears under Incoming server.
  23. Click Ok and then finally Select Finish.

 

  • Access a Windows Live Hotmail account with Outlook Express using IMAP account:

As an alternative to POP, To access a Windows Live Hotmail account to Outlook Express using IMAP account:

  1. Choose Tools> Accounts from the menu in Outlook Express.
  2. Click Add and then select Mail.
  3. Type your name under display name.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Type your Windows Live Hotmail address under email address.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Make sure IMAP account is select from my incoming mail server.
  8. Type “imap-mail.outlook.com” under Incoming mail(POP) server field.
  9. Enter”smtp-mail.outlook.com” under Outgoing mail (SMTP)server field.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Type your Windows Live Hotmail account address under Account name.
  12. Enter and type your Windows Live Hotmail password.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Select Finish.
  15. Now your imap-mail.outlook.com is highlighted under Internet Accounts window.
  16. Click on Properties.
  17. Go to the Server tab.
  18. You have to make sure my server requires authentication is checked under Outgoing mail server.
  19. Select the Advanced tab.
  20. Make sure server requires a secure connection(SSL) is check under both outgoing mail and incoming mail.
  21. Type “587” number is entered under outgoing server.
  • Checked if the number “993” automatically has not been changed under incoming server, otherwise enter a number “993”
  1. Click Ok and close in the Internet Accounts window.
  2. Select Yes to download the Windows Live Hotmail folders to Outlook Express.
  3. Click Ok.
